The Bark Show to benefit Pet Helpers Adoption Center

Margo Kaufman Gallery

Guests at Thursday night’s Bark Show at the Wickliffe House—a Margo Kaufman Gallery event to benefit Pet Helpers Adoption Center—were treated to the largest exhibition Margo has ever hosted.  The show featured nine contemporary artists, including painters Kat Hastie and Townsend Davidson joined by the newly discovered Sally Benedict and Kate Long Stevenson, just to name a few. Guests wandered upstairs and down and on the porches viewing paintings, sculptures, and furniture/objects d’art handcrafted by Michael Moran and enjoying Mr. Koolie’s ice cream treats, eclectic wines from Vidalco International, and catering by Mediterra. The front lawn seemed to be the hot spot.  The area allowed dogs to run about and play and to show off for their prospective owners.

As an added bonus to the evening, art enthusiasts got the opportunity to witness the launch of the Margo T-shirt collection. There were two different designs, one with Margo’s face screen-printed in bright orange on the front and the other with the words “I Art”.  Excited to see that I had purchased one of these fabulous creations, Margo Kaufman owner Jeffery Rhodes commented on the quality of the T-shirt saying, “These are no Fruit of the Loom.”  Jeffery, I will wear it with pride.  Sales of the Margo T-shirts will ensure the continued support and promotion of emerging contemporary artists.

A portion of sales from the event will go to fund the capital campaign to underwrite the new 14,000 square foot Pet Helpers Adoption Shelter and Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic at 1447 Folly Road, James Island.

Margo’s Fabulous Pet Fete

The Pet Fete

What do you get when you take a historic mansion, contemporary art, champagne, adoptable rescued puppies, throw in an ice cream truck, and a DJ that spins Cyndi Lauper and ABBA?  The biggest Margo Show to date!  Over 70 pieces of work from emerging artists were on show and for sale to a nearly fire hazard size crowd.  Best of all, Margo was proud to host this event to benefit Pet Helpers, an animal rescue and adoption non profit.

Margo would have been lost without the hard work and navigation of: Susan Taylor and Emily Laurie from Pet Helpers, Katie Priegel and Jeff Gleim from Mediterra Catering, Ross and Margaret from Mr. Koolie’s, Pandamonium (the amazing DJ), Karen Siegel, Caroline Williams, Diana Pittman, and Don Hill.

Who are you, and why are you dressed so fabulous?

Margo gets mentioned in Jonathan Sanchez’s Spoleto Party Blog:

“Who are you and why are you dressed so fabulous?” she said to a young man in a bright orange jacket and matching streak of hair.

Answers: Jeffery Rhodes, and because he’s the representative of host Kat Hastie’s artwork, which was hung all over the ballroom, a la the Collection.Through his roving Margo Kaufman Gallery (named after his grandmother, the business card features the only picture of her to survive Katrina) Rhodes also sells Townsend Davidson, David Boatwright, Tim Hussey and more. And last night he was also showing work by Stella Nova hair salon. (The streaks often compliment the colors in shows. And no it didn’t show up in the picture.) Read the whole article.

For this floral and poetic salute to the season, designer Janet Porcher Gregg artfully pairs blossoms and branches from local gardens with natural containers handcrafted in silver, clay, and wood.

Congrats to Margo artists Michael Moran, Daniel McSweeney, and our cover artist, Kaminer Haislip, on their beautiful spread in the April 2008 issue of Charleston Magazine.
